Thanks for the info, I will check to see if I can make it appear as such! I can then expect to see the total capacity as 16GB correct? Out of curiosity, are there any issues with running it in the current 12TB RAID 0 configuration?

And, seeing as I am not an expert in this, while I understand that having a striped HD such as my new 16TB WD has twice the possibility of failure due to two drives to make one, but really the only danger there is of actually looking my data is if I have a simultaneous failure of one drive from both the main and the backup drive correct? This has a pretty low chance of happening considering if I get a failure of one, I can always replace and be back in business correct? Is it recommended to have two backups!? IE purchase another 16TB WD and have that act as a backup to the backup?

Thank you!

This depends on what SoftRAID sees in the disks column.
It appears your disks are showing up individually, and were "striped" together using OS X RAID.

WD has a setting in most of those enclosures to make the box appear as a single 8TB drive (RAID 0 mode). If you can set that, then yes you can create a large volume with SoftRAID.

Note: the 16TB "disk" is also a stripe volume. While you will have two copies of your data, all of your data is on uprotected stripe volumes. So make sure you have another backup strategy than just the two volumes.

Hello everyone,

So I have a Lacie 8TB external and a WD 8TB (duo drive) External. Both Lighting. The WD was my backup until I just filled up my Lacie (4K video). I bought a 16TB WD USB 3 as my new backup and am looking to combine the two 8TB into a RAID 0 striped (I understand this is the fastest for things like video editing and rendering). However in SoftRAID lite when I go to make the volume, 12 TB is the max vice 16 TB. I imagine this has to do with the WD duo registering as two 4TB? Is there a way to make it act like an 8TB and effectively get the 16GB worth?

Thank you!
