OS is Catalina on iMac. Running thunder bay in raid 5 mode with SoftRAID XT. I have system preferences set to put hard drives to sleep whenever possible. However when the mac sleeps the enclosure stays awake. This causes too much fan noise at night. ??? to fix.
Do I need to upgrade to SoftRAID?
Thanks.
The SoftRAID driver follows all OS X sleep protocols. So something in your system is keeping it awake.
Try disable spotlight for a while to see if this is triggering it.
System Preferences
Spotlight
Security
Add volume as exemption
restart.

This suggestion worked. The correct path is:
System Preferences
Spotlight
Privacy
Add volume as exemption
restart
