Can't convert AppleRAID to SoftRAID

I am a new SoftRAID user. I have a Mac Pro 2009 (with 2010 firmware) and several AppleRaid mirror sets. I just "upgraded" from 10.9.5 Mavericks to 10.11.6 El Capitan and as a result of losing a decent Disk Utility I am trying SoftRAID. I just installed a beta V5.5 (V5.5.5b17) with the V5.5.5b17 driver due to another problem outlined in the thread "SoftRaid Error 10" - https://srforums.wpengine.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=581

My next issue is that I have two 2TB disks that are partitioned into 4 slices and then these slices are mirrored in an AppleRaid. SoftRAID keeps asking me to convert them to SoftRAID but when I do it tells me that it can't because "SoftRAID can't convert this volume, because the hard disk, where the volume lies, is used by other volumes."

So I've seen the response in the "Volume can't be converted" - https://srforums.wpengine.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=537- thread and I assume the same applies to my situation.

Once I find someplace to offload 2TB of files can I create smaller, mirrored sets from the 2 2TB disks as before with SoftRAID? Is it capable? It's just too complicated to convert automatically?

Thanks for your time.

Apple's RAID is weakly documented and there were too many "corner cases" where something could go wrong with multiple volumes on a set of disks, so we chose not to support converting those RAID sets (as yours)

SoftRAID can create as many RAID volumes on a set of disks as you want, there is no limit. You can also mix RAID types on disks easily. the SoftRAID interface is very intuitive for creating multiple volumes, just specify the size of each volume as you create it.
