hello

i want to convert an apple raid 0 (three internal disks on my mac pro) to a SoftRAID volume and get the message

"the volume "xxx" can't be converted to a softraid volume. softraid can't convert this volume, because the hard disk, where the volume lies, is used by other volumes."

i have three hd's in raid 0, consisting of two volumes. one volume uses the tree inner parts (the slower) and one volume uses the three outer parts (faster) of the hard disks.

also one of the volumes is synchronized with a synology cloud.

any suggestions?

best, jorma.

Because of complexities, we do not convert multi-volume Apple RAID configurations to SoftRAID format, sorry.

oh, so i will have to configure it all over. ok.

do you think, this raid configuration could be the reason that el capitan was not working when i tried to update? i had to go back to my old system, 9.5.1.
my mac just didnt start up anymore after updating to el capitan ..

The El Capitan upgrade should not have impacted this. The problem was probably the boot cache on your Apple RAID volume, which is something El Capitan should have updated, but the absence of the RAID in Disk Utility does not make the Apple RAID driver non bootable.

Thank you for your reply.

Anyway, the system is running off a separate OWC Accelsior E2 with an updated patch.

Maybe I just have to try updating to El Capitan again .. though I am a bit scared .. last time I was fondling with my Mac for hours ..

Create a bootable thumbdrive so you can recover more quickly. ;-)
