Available space after creating a volume different between hard drive manufacturers

I have four 10TB disks (WD branded) that are in two RAID-1 mirrored volumes I created in Softraid a few years ago, and in the disk information, the disks show they each have available space of 512 bytes.

I have two 10TB disks (HGST branded) that are in a RAID-1 mirrored volume I created a few days ago, and in the disk information, the disks show they each have available space of 134MB.

Under disk information, total bytes is 10,000,831,348,736 for all of the disks made by both manufacturers.

1.  Just curious why the available space is larger for the HGST disks. Is it because the manufacturers supplied different number of sectors on their 10TB drives?

2.  I read from other forums that some people have run into an issue when rebuilding a failed RAID mirror because different manufacturers have different sector counts in identical capacity drives, and their replacement drive is slightly smaller and would not work.  Could this occur with Softraid as well?

Thanks so much

By default, SoftRaid uses the maximum number of blocks, but keeps it even. I suspect the Hitachi uses 4k blocks, so it would be an even number of 4K blocks used.

SoftRAID has the ability to resize a volume to make it slightly smaller, so you do not have this issue.

(there is a bug in 6.2 but it will be fixed soon when resizing volumes)
