Ok so I have a brand new Mac Mini M1 and made sure not to update to 11.2 (Big Sur 11.1 is preinstalled). I have a OWC Mercury Elite Pro (USB) 4bay set as RAID 0.
I turned off the security restrictions in the recovery boot and installed SR 6.0.1 R48 and allowed for full disk access and allowed OWC under general security tab and after restarting if the RAID is on the computer just continually reboots.
I disconnected and Mac mini boots fine. I launch Softraid without an issue but once I turn on the OWC Elite Pro the disks start loading in Softraid and then it kills the computer. Just immediately restarts.
I have a MacBookPro 16 running OS 10.15.7 (Catalina) and The RAID mounts fine on that machine.
Is this a mercury Elite Pro quad?
Are you connecting it via a USB C to C (connector) cable, or an A to C cable?
@softraid-support Yes it's a Mercury Elite Pro Quad USB C. Connected via A to C.
That is a kernel bug we have reported to Apple. Do you have the ability to connect with a C to C cable? that will fix this.
Crazy. Yes, I've connected via C-C now and it works. Thank you!
Ok, restarted the Mac Mini and now the RAID will not mount again. Softraid 6 R48 still loads and shows the RAID0 but it will not mount when choosing to mount.
Still connected via C-C USB.
I can't get over how many issues I've had with SoftRAID and mounting OWC the past few months - Why is it so unreliable?! I have work I cannot access.
Attach a SoftRAID tech support file, so I can see if this is a directory issue or a driver issue.
I agree, you should not be having these issues. the USB is a hardware issue, apparently, perhaps a kernel issue.
But the volume mounting should be separate.
This one is a "thank you apple, for automatically upgrading my system". Your OS has upgraded to 11.2.1, which blocks the SoftRAID driver. You need to wait now until 11.3 (or the next beta of 11.3, which fix this and may be released early next week, we hope) or go back to 11.1, perhaps using Time Machine
Wow, this is insanely frustrating - I know for a fact I have automatic updates turned off.
Well I can't wait until next week - I need to work off of this drive. Guess I need to spend all night downgrading.
Do you have a time Machine backup? That will make this easiest.
Otherwise, you need to factory reset. We have instructions if you need them.
@softraid-support- I just upgraded to 12.3 beta last night, and it still isn't working. I know the volume is still good. When I connected a MacBook Pro that still had Catalina, it appeared just fine. So I guess it's back to waiting for the next one.
I think you meant 11.3 beta 2, which multiple user have also confirmed does not work. Tuesday should be a new beta, lets hope.
@softraid-support Oops, I must have misread dates. Next Tuesday. I can wait that long. Thanks.
