I’m thinking about getting a new Thunder Bay Flex 8. I have a question regarding the shuttles. I’m thinking about populating two NVMe M.2 shuttles, and would like to set it up with a Raid 5.  I need to know if Softraid is going to see it as 2 drives, or 8 drives. Thanks

@MrWheelz

SoftRAID will see them as 4 drives per shuttle, yes.

however, the first bay ini a Flex 8 is full speed U2, and the rest standard PCIe. So you will be limiting your performance by making a volume from the 2 slots, since the others bays have a max of 1200 MBs/, then the average of the two may be reduced to 1600MB/s, where as, the one bay alone can do over 2400 MB/s.

So the answer is yes, but you are better off with larger drives in the first bay.
