Hello,

Planning an upgrade/addition to my photo video online locally attached via Thunderbolt switch storage media. Delivery expected today. Wondering how this new configuration would best work with SoftRAID and these specific issues:

  1. Use RAID 4 or RAID 0+1 configuration? I mentioned the primary need is for fast access to photo editing with the media on these four drives.
  2. Maximize the expected storage on this media array? My current need is about 1.6TB. The new media are 4x 2TB modules.
  3. Add to current config of local storage on MBP M1Pro 2021 (Samsung 970EVO Plus SSD NVMe M.2), 1TB & 500GB eight devices in 2 (Akitio) SATA III enclosures).
  4. Compatible with Sonoma?

Macbook Pro 16" Retina XDR, 2024 M4 Pro internal 2TB storage, 36GB RAM, MacOS 15.6.1 Sequoia, running v8.0 SoftRAID software; Local RAID drives/enclosures: 4M2 OWC Enclosure with 6TB NMe, RAID4 Storage; two external OWC T3 enclosures (2.5TB online storage) populated with JBOD 6x500GB, EVO SSD, RAID 4 array disks/partitions; Local Backup: 2TB.

You do not have enough space for RAID 1+0, so use RAID 4 or 5.

Sonoma support will be available at or shortly after Sonoma release. beta MacOS software changes quite a bit, so we do extensive testing before release, keeping up with any issues generated by changes in MacOS.

So you are fine.
