Does Softraid support hybrid SSD/HDD drives, like Seagate Firecuda?

Will using these drives with Softraid provide any higher performance relative to using standard HDDs?

As long as a disk is reliable, SoftRAID can use it.

Yes, SoftRAID will take advantage of the extra performance offered by the SSD portion of the disk. it is all automatic, so you do not need to make any adjustments, or make any setting changes.

I'd be VERY wary of the Firecuda for this application. I tried building an array and all 4 of my disks failed verification.

4 disks failing a verify or certify indicates something else is going on. are these in a Thunderbolt enclosure, or USB?

I'm running a ThunderBay 4 Mini. All four of my Firecudas failed certification. Could be a bad batch, but I purchased 2 from eBay and 2 from Newegg.

So far what you know is your overall hardware is not reliable for use. A certify does not even use the SoftRAID driver, it is a special OS X tool we wrote that puts a random pattern on the disks, then reads it back.

If all 4 are failing this simple test, you need to figure out what the actual problem is, as if you put data on these drives, you will get data corruption.

The Thunderbay Mini has proven itself reliable over several years. We have several in our offices and never have certify failures, so it is unlikely to be the Mini.

If you send us a support file at support at softraid, we can take a look and see if we see anything unusual, but a disk should easily pass a certify test, it is not a complicated test, although it does stress drives, which is the point of it.

Did you ever get to the bottom of what happened with your Firecudas? Have had my eye on this model to replace the ageing discs in my Thunderbay 4 mini
