Its running? that would surprise me.
I would recommend Big Sur or older, though. It might be that it can scan, but not replace, a directory.

I have canceled the diskwarrior, and will work out how to go about another operating system. If I buy/ borrow another Mac with mohave, will the SoftRAID 6.2.1 work on this, or do I get the older XT? cheers Paul
Actually, just connect the RAID to the Mojave system. it will be mountable, so Disk Warrior will see it. It will not "rebuild", but can mount. (A limited SoftRAID driver is bundled with all macOS installations) then you do not have to mess with installing drivers.

hi, I have run the disk warrior and have all these repairs. its heaps, but I dont feel I have any options here!
any reason not to push go?
There are a lot of damaged files. here is what to do:
Click the "Preview" button. it will mount a pseudo volume on your desktop.
Use this page as a reference. Pretty much everything should be OK, except if there are "rescued items", damaged files, etc. Make sure the "recreated folders" contain what you expect.
Open some same files...
If all looks OK on the Preview, ie if you would be happy recovering those (and only those) files, then click Replace.
What you see is exactly what you will get. the preview is a slow volume, so it may be slow to browse open files, etc, but it is a great way to get confidence before you replace anything.
If you do not like what you see, then do not replace and ru a data recover application like R-Studio or Disk Drill and see if they can get what you need. Keep in mind they do not write to the volume, but if they see the entire structure, you may be OK there. You need to recover to a different disk.
If you are doubly cautious, do both, run the recovery first, (the two named are probably best/fastest), then you can replace with Disk warrior. You can actually leave the disk Warrior window open while you scan the volume, they will not conflict.
just remember the Disk Warrior "replace" is final. no going back.
@softraid-support - I have managed to get all the most important files off, so very relieved, this was a good chunk of careers important work. thanks heaps for your help.
But you suggest I do another validate? I did this earlier last week, it took 80 hours- that's when the second drive died, so I am reluctant to try again with a drive with warnings...
I can post an update report of the raid here beforehand. I have turning off the raid and will get onto this after the weekend.
cheers Paul
Send another support file, I can take a look.
Hi, I have given up on trying to fix this. I have spent weeks on this. Luckily I have got most of the main data off the drive in its read only form.
I will finish the pulling off drives, then replace all the drives with faster 10tb drives I purchased the other day and start a new storage.
I haven't been able to make my new m1 pro laptop work with SoftRAID however. I have done all the permissions that are recommend on the web (that worked with my Mac mini m1 with the same OS). Plus, I had to update to a new licence with these new Macs to work, and I downloaded and used the 15 day trial. But the website doesn't let me completely fill out the order as the order form has only US States on it (I am from New Zealand), and without that I can't get further in the form. This is also disappointing after paying for 3 raids that included software but now I have to pay again....this wasn't made clear when I spent a lot on OWC raids. I expected them to work through their lifecycle. My synology is still running with silicon Macs and I purchased that well before the OWC raids.
cheers paul
Let me work on the web form.
But what was the purchase dates of your three enclosures?
Can you attach a SoftRAID tech support file from your M1 that is not working?
Let's get you working first, then deal with licenses, if I can assist there.

hi, I looked up the last 2 x thunderbay 6's was 2019, thunderbay4 2017. Its not a big deal as the software is cheap (compared with the 7k I have spent in the last week sorting, and upgrading backups!), its just I can't even buy it - everything has been a hassle so far..
in the meantime I don't have a working SoftRAID licence to get a report (its over 15 days)...
You can generate a tech support file even with an expired trial version.
From 2019, the upgrade path should be no charge, also. Check here:

Hi, thanks. I actually have 8 days left on my laptop (got mixed up with another Mac- I have three all copying various things at the moment!)
I have attached a tech report with my new MacBook Pro M1 pro that wasn't mounting the OWC raid. Cheers Paul
just to add, I when through all three serial numbers and one of them gave me a free upgrade to the latest SoftRAID. Thanks!
Note: You can get additional XT licenses for $20 each.
Lets make sure you enabled third party driver...
Did you do this?
https://support.apple.com/en-lk/guide/mac-help/mchl768f7291/mac
Select reduced security and enable this:
Select the “Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers” checkbox to allow installation of software that uses legacy kernel extensions.
After enabling third party extensions, reinstall the SoftRAID driver, (do not immediately restart) and go to System Preferences / Security to "Allow" OWC as an identified developer.
If you already did these steps and the driver is not loading, lets see what the output is when you try to force load the driver. Lets also check if it is quarantined.
Paste these two commands into terminal.app and post the output to each as text:
(the first should not have any output)
sudo xattr /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext
sudo kmutil load -p /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext

Whoo Hoo!
all sorted, I now can mount my raids! Now I have a soft raid licence working and data!
After all this very stressful backup, I need to work out a more robust back up system. Can you help me here?
I plan to have my three OWC raids as my main up to date working volumes (100tb or so) but I would like to have an automatic backup continuously/ or nightly to my large synergy NAS raid that slow and only 1gb ethernet, but will be my second backup of the main raids.
Is there a good Mac based software that can keep doping automatic backups that I can just leave running?
Cheers Paul
