RAID 5 Unreliable Sector Issue

I replaced all 4 drives in my raid 5 enclosure 3 months ago. All 4 drives only have ~800 hours of use.

As of yesterday, all 4 drives simultaneously started reporting "disk failure predicted" and all are suddenly reading ~3800 unreliable sectors.

Since all 4 drives in my enclosure started reporting similar issues at exactly the same time and they are all pretty new Its seeming to me like SoftRaid hiccup.

I've power cycled my enclosure and taken all drives out and re-installed them hoping it was just some glitch, but all drives are still reporting the unreliable sectors.

Any thoughts on a solution? (Besides the obvious replacing all 4 drives )

Much appreciated

Reallocated Sectors are a permanent state. Unreliable sectors is a state that may be "transient". An unreliable sector is one that had to be retried in order to be read. (or error correction applied to get accurate data)

As an example, what if you had a temporarily power loss? That can cause drives to report some unreliable sectors. 4,000 unreliable sectors is very unusual, in any case.

When the drive is asked to use these sectors again, it should either reallocate the sectors, or clear that state.

One a sector is reallocated, it is wise to replace the drive, as that is a condition that we use to predict failure, as reallocated sectors are predictive in nature.

What we recommend is to backup the volume, then certify all 4 disks. The unreliable state will either clear up on the drives, or some sectors will be reallocated and you will want to replace the drives.

Hope this helps!
