@raymondjr The link has a bad character at the end ">" that caused it to fail for me as well.

Here is the corrected link: https://www.softraid.com/sr_beta

EDIT: I seldom post without an edit.

I'm having a little trouble determining the current state of SoftRAID with Big Sur with all the threads. Might I suggest a sticky with this information all in one place?

Is b42 working with Big Sur? Is b42 the "updated beta" for Big Sur release I have seen mentioned, or is that release still forth coming? Is it recommended to wait for release? What are the known issues with b42 if any?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to gather the most correct information before I attempt and upgrade to Big Sur.

EDIT: I seldom post without an edit.

Raymond, the link works fine, I just tested it.

I get a page not found at "https://srforums.wpengine.com/sr_beta%3E" which is where I open to when I click the link.  I have removed the %3E and it takes me to the same page not found page.  Not sure what I could be doing wrong if the beta is indeed at that link...

I think the forum added a space between the brackets and you are adding the s for https, which is not needed for a download link.

Try this: https://www.softraid.com/sr_beta

It should have posted as

(to make it a hot link)

We will be making a sticky post with the next beta, which will have ARM support.

B42 is the current beta. it does not support ARM, or 10.14 or older.

Can someone who has upgraded to Big Sur and installed the SR beta on an Intel-based Mac please post your experience here? I am trepidatious of upgrading such a mission critical piece of software to a beta version without knowing if it works.

Thanks!

Lets see if others post. I have a few hundred betas out so far. No driver issues, but some UI things, one I do not already know about. We are going to keep up with betas now, and there should be steady progress.

the 6.0 driver is solid, we ship it with Big Sur. Its a matter of getting the application updated.

I would not update to 11.0.0 or 11.0.1 in any case. Wait until Apple fixes some bugs, as in prior OS releases.

@cjglynn very interested in it, too. I have a Thunderbay 6 with a RAID 5 running. I wonder if the speed will drop a lot in my case.

@softraid-support 1. will there be a big speed drop in RAID5? 2. will the license with 5.8 still work on 6.0 beta? thank you.

Speed will not be impacted, that much I can reassure you.

APFS volumes on HDD's are quite a bit slower still. That will be the case until Apple makes a change in APFS to accommodate HDD's. But just using Big Sur does not change your SoftRAID volume's file system.

Are you saying this because you ACTUALLY know of issues? If not, be clear about that, you're stating an opinion, when people are asking for facts.

- Do SoftRAID volumes work with Big Sur's bundled driver, yes or no?
- Does the SoftRAID application <v6 work with Big Sur, yes or no?
- Do you know of any problems with 11.0.0 or 11.0.1 that have anything to do with SoftRAID, yes or no?

@softraid-support  Will the 6.0 beta 42 work if I currently use SoftRAID lite?   I'm planning on taking the Big Sur plunge and just wanting to make sure there isn't a Lite version of the beta.
