Does SoftRAID have any information related to compatibility with macOS 11.3?

11.3 fixes the bug that prevents SoftRAID from working on M1, yes.

That is probably a relief for you and M1 users. So, for us Intel users, macOS 11.3 is a go.

Hi,

I upgraded my iMac (3,2 GHz Intel Xeon W 8-Core) to iOs Big Sur 11.3 and my OWC drives no longer mount. I am using Softraid version 6.0.3.

I'm adding the SoftRAID Tech Report, I appreciate any help.

Thank's a lot,

Mauro

@maurocapozzi

You also filed a support file, which is being handled. Your directory was damaged, I believe.

Hi,

About the support I sent a message for them. I posted the message here, because I was not sure how long the support is taking to respond, due to the restrictions of the pandemic.

My apologies, if I did something wrong.

Now I had an idea and I took the three HDs (which are interconnected to each other) and disconnected it from my iMAC.

After I only plugged it into a notebook (that is running IOS 10.15.7 Catalina) and all data is available.

When I connect to the iMac again, the HDs doesn't appear.

I believe the problem is actually some incompatibility with iOS 11.3 BigSur.

Thank you so much, for your attetion and I'm sorry for my double order.

@maurocapozzi

The only problem is we have to answer your question twice and it can be confusing to keep clear what information you have already been told.

Your problem is too many obsolete extensions, so Big Sur starts blocking other extensions from loading.

Hi there.  I still have issues with SoftRaid.

Mac Mini M1, 11.3, Softraid 6.0.3, 6.0.3 drivers installed.

I'm trying to transfer a volume that runs fine on SR 5.8.4 on El Capitan, onto this machine.

- Physical drives show up, no errors

- Volume shows up, no errors.  Not mounted, Safeguard disabled, RAID 5, optimized for workstation (proper for this Mac).

- OWC asked me to generate a report and that just spun for over 20 minutes.  Force quit.  They told me to change security in Recovery mode.  Done.  Same issue.

- Log reports: Apr 29 20:46:29 - SoftRAID Tool: The command 94 encountered the error -50.

- Been trying to first validate the volume, then mount it.  Neither works.

What can I do to make this work?  This seems impossible.

Cheers

@dabee

Your problem is one of two issues. You did not do this step:

https://support.apple.com/en-lk/guide/mac-help/mchl768f7291/mac
Select reduced security and enable this:
Select the “Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers” checkbox to allow installation of software that uses legacy kernel extensions.

Reinstall the SoftRAID driver and you should get the prompt to  "Allow" OWC as an identified developer. You must do that (and give SoftRAID Full Disk Access while you are at it.

If you did the above, and did not get the System Preferences pop up, then you have old extensions that Big Sur does not like. And when you migrate date to an M1, Migration Assistant imports them, despite the fact they cannot load. And Big Sur cannot load many extensions, sometimes no third party extensions at all until they are deleted.

We are creating a mini app to clean these out, should be ready in a few days. Otherwise you need to remove these extensions. Contact support for instructions, it is pretty detailed for a forum post.

I did do that.  OWC told me to do that and it still won't do anything.  I've not used Migration Assistant either.  The only date you could be talking about would be on that volume.

How about I wait for the software.  Where can I watch for it to be released?

Cheers

Attach a Tech support file for SoftRAID and I can take a look. if you did not use Migration, then you probably don't have old extensions, though.

The app won't generate a report.  It hangs.  Yes I changed over the reduced security.  6.0.3 plus 6.0.3 drivers.

Sorry, I should add the last of the Console log:

Apr 29 20:45:33 - SoftRAID Monitor: Starting SMART test on all disks which support SMART.
Apr 29 20:45:39 - SoftRAID Monitor: Starting SMART test on all disks which support SMART.
Apr 29 20:45:41 - SoftRAID Monitor: Finished SMART test on all disks. No disks failed the SMART test.
Apr 29 20:46:06 - SoftRAID Application: Launching application: SoftRAID version 6.0.3
Apr 29 20:46:06 - SoftRAID Monitor: SoftRAID XT license activated for all users on this computer (nickname “HQ3”). This license is for disks in select OWC enclosures.

The 6.0.3 driver may be installed, but you do not know what is loading unless you run this command in terminal:

sudo kextstat -b com.softraid.driver.SoftRAID

I am betting it is different than 6.0.3

There is a huge bug in Big Sur with the extensions cache loading.
