Hello

I need more space. However not accessible all the time. Is it possible to use the same OWC 4-bay enclosure for two (or more) sets of 4-disk-RAID5 and just swap the disks depending on which data i need? And is it also possible to easily change enclosure?

Thanks and best

Yes you can absolutely swap enclsoures, etc. SoftRAID does not care how disks are connected, as long as the connection is "reliable".

I would add modest caution, however that you follow some basic caution:
unmount the volume and wait sufficient time for all IO to the disks to stop before powering off the enclosure
let drives spin down before removing them from enclosure
Handle the drives with some care against static electricity.

Thanks. What is a safe handling against static electricity?

@nightjar

Touch large metal before touching the drives. Be careful with carpet which generates static electricity.
In the older days, you needed to use a Static strap. Devices are better now, but its still not a bad idea. I always "ground" before touching anything electronic that is outside its enclosure.
