I'd like to upgrade my ThunderBay 4 chasis from TB2 to TB3. According to OWC, this will result in losing all the data:
"Removing the drives from the old RAID and putting them in a new RAID enclosure would still make it so that you need to reset the RAID unfortunately. This is a hardware issue with moving the drives rather than a software issue. I do apologize."
I thought SoftRAID could find the drives in any enclosure. This seems like a real pain.
That may be referring to one of the hardware RAID enclosures.
SoftRAID is totally flexible, yes you can move to another enclosure with no issues.
Hi there,
I'm facing an issue with my very old TB4 chassis and was wondering if I can replace it with a newer TB8 chassis. I was able to get in contact with OWC directly and they said: "The great thing about Software RAIDs vs Hardware RAIDS is yes, it will retain the RAID array once you transfer the drives."
I haven't tried this out yet, but if I do end up trying, I'll post a reply to keep the forum updated.
I realise this particular forum post is quite old, but hopefully this might help someone else out in future....
Cheers,
Dave
Yes it will work, and any topical posts are welcome here! Good luck!
