Yes we offer enclosures without SoftRAID, for reasons like this. Note: If you get the enclosure with SoftRAID, that comes with a 3 year license, so it may still be a preference for you.
It may be the newer drives take more power, causing some issues, I do not know.
Yes you can take any drive set and put them into any enclosure and they will work.

No, but the power supply could have been getting weaker over time. this is all speculation, of course.
