support file from i9 MBP running external boot of Sonoma with full trial version of SoftRAID 8.3
Tech support file from bought and paid for (at least subscribed) full version of SoftRAID 8.3 on macOS Sonoma, Mac Studio M2 Ultra 128GB (which I really hope to get to enjoy and use one day for how much money I spent before this entire nightmare began).
The final forthcoming update will take 45 - 60 minutes from now to generate. I will upgrade the operating system on the external boot now and re-load the trial version of 8 on the old system. Not sure how long the system upgrade will take
Change of plans. No more support files today. You know what the plan was. Went to update from the external boot and got cold feet, so wanted to confirm with Apple that by updating the macOS when booted from the external disk, that it wouldn't overwrite the macOS on the internal drive and hose me into oblivion after everything else that has seemingly gone wrong. Called AppleCare. First call dropped and the agent never rang back. Second didn't understand and it was excruciating. Then she put me on hold. While on hold I was looking at the Apple support article indicating this should be no big deal or risk at all. Then she got back online and told me if I update from the external boot, that it will update everything on the internal drive as well, and said my only option was to create a new external boot from scratch. I have no confidence they're correct but it was the final straw since now that introduced too much anxiety.
I have too much else to today to create an entirely new external boot disk for Sequoia so the support files from Monterey and Sonoma are hopefully good enough.
Updating MacOS on an external will not update files on another volume. That would be a very evil tihng to do by MacOS.
@softraid-support I was sure AppleCare was wrong but it made me mad anyhow (how much time has been lost talking to people at Apple who don't even seem to know as much as I do as an amateur).
Are the support files from Monterey & Sonoma enough to work with?
Engineering will be investigating this. They are certain this is just a user interface bug. What you sent was fine.
@softraid-support Thanks for letting me know - but I need to point out that even though it's "just a user interface bug," the bug makes (Version 8 of) the program unusable for me until solved, so I'll check in every few days to see how it's going since we need a solution ASAP.
How do we extend my SoftRAID 8 license?
When we have a solution, we will create a beta for it.
Did you create a different email account for your purchase? I only see the SR7 license.
@softraid-support it's possible the support plan for 7 was paid for using a different email address. The OWC Digital account under the email address shows an order for SoftRAID 8 Premium.
@softraid-support Thank you, the account now shows an update. I really appreciate that.
@softraid-support Got a notification there's a SoftRAID version update. I'll definitely update but am in the middle of a project at the moment and want to wait until it's over since looking over the system requirements, I'm going to have to update the macOS to 15.4 for the latest SoftRAID. I'm willing to make the leap back to Sequoia now since it's 4 months later so hopefully Sequoia is ironed out now. Any indication if this latest SoftRAID update fixes the UI bug we were talking about?
Sorry, no, that bug is not addressed. This was primarily a driver update for Sequoia. (and the Windows version has many updates.)
@softraid-support Not a concern, this information actually helps me out. I'll still upgrade but that lets me know ahead of time so that I don't keep chasing my tail and/or drop everything to update the operating system until it's a good time between projects. I appreciate it.
Finished all day shoot. Had data on NVMe SSD in Flex8 with U2 Shuttle containing 3 blades. Ejected and powered off to run to store for a midnight dinner since this began to wreck my life.
Now the blade I need is not showing on the Studio. Tried usual steps from before (re-start, power on computer first, then Flex, re-seat cable). None worked so went to i9 MBP. Blade I needed still did not show. Reseated the shuttle in Bay 1 and re-seated the cable. Still not showing. Now looking into this further instead of eating.
If disks not showing is an issue with my system then why was it never an issue a single time in 4 years and now has followed two computers and two enclosures? Hope I figure this out tonight
