I have 2 Western Digital Drives that show up in SoftRaid Lite, but not in macOS Finder.

I want to remove the SoftRaid drivers so that I can format them with APFS and put them in an OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual.

I tried initializing the drives...which did not work

What command should I use?

Please advise.

Thank you.

What OS are you running? you may not be able to remove the driver, depending on what MacOS version you are on.

I Assume the volumes if any, on the disks are not mounting, so what is the error if you erase them with Disk Utility?

Hi @softraid-support

I just ran "Initialize…” using Disk Utility (for the second time) from a MacPro5,1 running macOS Sierra 10.12.6 targeting the a Western Digital Drive sitting in a StarTech USB 3.0 to Dual 2.5/3.5" HDD/SSD Docking Station with UASP connected via USB.

The result both times was the computer crashed/restarted and when it came back the targeted disk was NOT initialized.

I have access to other machines running different macOS versions.

Should I try Disk Utility from my Big Sur laptop or my Ventura laptop?
Mac OS Extended (Journaled)?
APFS?

@tony_white

Attach a SoftRAID tech support file with the disks connected

@tony_white

What if you "zero disk", 100 sectors? Does that work? It should. then you can use Disk Utility on these drives

Hi @softraid-support

Right click or menu: "Disk" > "Zero Sectors" > "First and Last 100 sectors" and then Disk Utility worked as you predicted.

Problem solved.

Thank you.
