Hi Folks:

New user to SoftRaid.  Setup on a Window Server with an OWC 4 Bay enclosure.  Using "VisaVersa" to copy files to the drive.  Have long used this with DROBO which is no more.  Server has become unresponsive after copying a few thousand files.   There are dozens of COMMAND tasks and POWERSHELL tasks that I've never seen before.  System has come to a crawl.   I stopped the copy process in the TaskManager and the system became responsive enough to restart.

I need  to be able to use this drive to copy files to reliably.   Any ideas as to what is happening and how to prevent?   Much appreciate any advise.

Does the same thing happen on a click and drag?

One thought is visa versa could be making an issue.

Second thing to try is to make sure that windows is not indexing the volume.

Hello, I will try, but I have used ViceVersa with a DROBO for a long time on the same machine, and never had this issue.  I will check the indexing as well.

I've never seen anything like this before.  The COMMAND and POWERSHELL tasks were proliferating, and all taking around 3 to 6MB according to the task manager.  The system became very unresponsive, even though CPU activity was very low.

@lsnover

I created a support case for you. Someone will reach out to you shortly. In the meantime...

Run the Windows Diagnostic program with the drives connected. You can download it here: https://download.owc.com/diagnostics/windows

This should generate a .ZIP file - When you get a response, reply with the zip file and any other descriptive information that can help them (copy/paste this post).

Thank you.  I'm doing a regular windows copy at the moment with no issues so far, but I really need to use an application to keep track and schedule the copies.  I will run the diags and get you the info.  Thank you!

Spoke too soon, after a large number of files copied, the system has again become unresponsive.  I tried running the diagnostics and that seemed to lock everything up.  I will have to try again off hours.

The system spawned a large number of "Console Windows Host" processes.   Once I cancelled the file copies, the system became responsive again after a bit.

OK, is it secure to post the diagnostics file here, or is there a better place?

@lsnover

Didn't you get a response from Jose yet? Its best to send it to your case. Its secure here, as now we do not allow non admins to see links, but it needs to get to your case.

Just to update, OWC helped me out.  Indexing was on by Default in Windows, and so the system was trying to INDEX hundreds of PDFs as the files were copying.   This brought the system down.   Turning off Indexing seems to have resolved the problem!   Thank you!
