SoftRAID Labelling Disks - Best Practice?

I looked over the SoftRAID Quick Start and Install Guide “Labelling Disks”.

https://software.owc.com/docs/softraid-quick-start-and-install-guide/softraid-features-you-should-know-about/labelling-disks/

What I don’t see are any suggestions for a Naming Convention to Label the disks.

I’m in the process of setting up a new fileserver with 4 - OWC Flex 1U4s with 16 OWC U2 Shuttles. So, the new server will have 64 NVMe M.2 SSDs in it (or up to 80 if I add some OWC Accelsior 4M2 cards).

Any suggestions for a Naming Convention to Label the disks?

My goal is that should I have a NVMe M.2 SSDs go bad I can identify the Shuttle with the bad NVMe M.2 SSD blade from within the SoftRAID app.

-Or-

Do I need to keep a offline database or spreadsheet with my Shuttle SNs & NVMe M.2 SSD SNs in it to get to this goal?

-Or-

Is there something I’m missing?

Thanks,
DanG

You have 4 rack mount devices. You can use "blink Disk light" to tell which is in position 1, etc, and on which rack.

Just give them a name that you can use to identify position. RACK 1 drive 1, or you can use any convention you want.
