Which types of RAID formats (volumes) can be the start-up volume?

non-RAID, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 4, RAID 5, and RAID 1+0 can all be used to Startup (boot) your Mac.
SoftRAID volumes can boot under 10.6.8, 10.7.5, 10.8.5, 10.11.6 and 12.x Mac OS versions.
Mac OS installers prior to Mavericks cannot install directly onto SoftRAID volumes. You need to either install, then convert to SoftRAID, or clone the volume using Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper or similar package.
Note: Usually, if you "clone" a system to a SoftRAID volume, then you need to run SoftRAID and "rebuild boot cache" to enable booting.

hi. i am not able to get this to work in 10.6.8 and softraid 5.5.5. after i convert an apple disk utility startup volume to softraid, i can no longer bless it as the boot volume in the system startup preference control panel. i have tried "rebuilding boot caches" and cloning the volume to a different disk. it still doesn't work. any suggestions? thanks!

We may need to see a SoftRAID tech support file to check if anything is unusual about your system. Send it to support @ SoftRAID .com and reference this thread. then we may have some additional ideas to try.
