I've been using SoftRAID for more than a year. I started with version 5.0 and have upgraded through every point release to v.5.5. I've had only minor issues to date (like SoftRAID reporting occasional errors on 4 brand new disks, which I discounted), but today one of my two SoftRAID arrays suddenly disconnected without warning. Usually reboot is sufficient to correct this, but upon rebooting this time, SoftRAID no longer loads upon reboot and my arrays are inaccessible.

I have two 4 disk drive bays, each with 4 5TB Seagate drives with RAID5 enabled on them. Each bay is a single array which equates to 15TB of storage with RAID5. I've got a lot of data at risk here.

The SoftRAID app will startup, but of course it just pinwheels since it cannot find any drives with which to communicate. The SoftRAID monitor in the menu bar is completely absent which tells me whatever "drivers" load at the system level are no longer doing so. Apple's Disk Utility no longer sees the drives either.

Not sure what to do from here. Try to reload SoftRAID? There's a lot of data at risk, so I'm not making another move until I hear from you.

Thanks.

We need more information to be able to help diagnose this.

Send a SoftRAID Technical Support file to support@softraid.com

In my original message I wrote, "The SoftRAID app will startup, but of course it just pinwheels since it cannot find any drives with which to communicate". None of the menu items are accessible as a result and I am unable to generate the requested report.

Attached is a screenshot of the SoftRAID app, which is mostly nothing.

try running this command in terminal:

sudo softraidtool generatereport /drofnala.sr_supt

(use copy/paste)
and send us that file. It will be on your boot volume.

Thanks. That worked and I sent the resulting file to your support email address.
