With the implementation of MacDrive in Softraid for windows, will there be an issue if Paragon APFS for windows is installed?

Will the 2 softwares play nice together?

Could it be made possible to not use or completely disable the limited hfs+ drivers that softraid uses?

Why do you think the SoftRAID HFS is limited, btw.

I have not tested this, but I don't see how there would be a conflict, as Paragon will only affect APFS volumes.

Are you trying to use APFS on a SoftRAID RAID volume in Windows?

SoftRAID will not work with the Paragon APFS driver. We are nearly ready for beta with our own APFS drivers.

We are testing to avoid conflicts

Good to hear I can still use APFS for windows, for now... Reading the release notes on the lastest windows update, Softraid and HFS+ for windows appears to be a problem. So I can see APFS for windows and Softraid also becoming an issue once you release your APFS drivers.

Why do I think Softraid HFS is limited...

Using just softraid, my other drives formatted as HFS+ are not seen by windows.  With Paragon HFS+ I can get access to all my non softraid HFS+ drives and the softraid ones.  I am unsure if HFS+ for windows is actually able to recognize a softraid array in HFS+ because you can't turn off the HFS feature in Softraid. You can remove the softraid driver entirely but that will just make all arrays unseen by windows.

And now I can't even install Softraid if HFS+ is installed which leaves me with a "limited" driver for HFS+ if I have softraid installed.

I understand now. SoftRAID for windows assumes you are only managing SoftRAID volumes. You want to add MacDrive to support all HFS volumes.

I think there is a conflict between Paragon and SoftRAID both trying to mount HFS volumes, so MacDrive would be necessary to support all drives.

Not a cost effective solution. But it is OWC... so that explains that...

Its both a business (support) and a technical decision. SoftRAID has its own driver, and is only supporting disks that it controls. Yes there is a lot of commonality with the MacDrive and SoftRAID drivers, but there are differences. So MacDrive remains a separate product. Perhaps in time, that can change.

Aside from the fact that Softraid obviously would rather you throw money at it's sister company and not use Paragon HFS+... what are the problems with paragon hfs+ and softraid?... cause I have softraid and hfs+ installed and all seems ok.

What I have heard is HFS volumes can get corrupted volume directories. I had a case where launching SoftRAID application in Windows caused the macOS volume to be corrupted, when paragon HFS is installed.

We prevent installing SoftRAID for Windows when Paragon HFS is installed

I have all paragon software removed in windows, updated to softraid 3.0.8 for win and I had a windows crash the other day... blue screen... random... didn't think much of it and went to sleep.  The next day I booted to find my RAID5 hfs+ volume corrupted.  Must've happened when the computer crashed.  Booted into mac and it couldn't fix.  Said volume structure or something was corrupted.  Disk Warrior 5 to the rescue.  Disk Warrior did eventually fix the problem.

So even the new softraid v3.0.8 and hfs+ seems a bit risky.

My solution was to backup the RAID5 and reformat NTFS to allow windows to natively read the volume, and utilizing Paragon NTFS to read the RAID5 when in macOS.  Performance hasn't been an issue and things seem quite stable.

Why can't you guys support ZFS? Seems to be the better file system overall.

Will the newly released SoftRAID 4 for Windows incorporate APFS support from the most recent version of MacDrive?

@softraid-support Thank you for the quick response! Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case on my machine - please see attached screenshot.

Should I try reinstalling SoftRAID to enable the APFS support on Windows?

@forelimbs

Let me investigate, this was in the list of features being developed, and I assumed it was completed. I will post when I know for certain.

No, APFS did not make the final release. It is taking a while to do it "right". Seems like it won't be until next year.
