Note the SoftRAID driver is not even in the backtrace.

We have to wait to see what Apple tells us. they may want additional information, but we have to wait.

Same thing happening to me. Brand new enclosure. Noticed my computer would crash overnight every night after going to sleep. If I set it to stay awake, crashes are reduced. Only happens when the RAID drive is plugged in. Computer functions fine when it is unplugged. It is plugged in directly to the port.

I decided until the problem can be sorted out, I'd eject it at the end of the day, but then I get a warning that "The disk wasn't ejected because one or more programs may be using it" even though all of my programs are closed and all it contains is backed up work files.

Send a SoftRAID tech support file to support at SoftRAID so we can see what is involved in the crashes.

Melzar;

Can you send another email to SoftRAID support with your forum user name, so I can correlate them. I will need the SoftRAID tech support file and a System Diagnose (as described earlier in the thread) so I can post them. (Use wetransfer.com to send a link to the files)

Melzar;

I have you identified, never mind!

Thank you. I'll stand by.

I've changed settings so computer cannot go to sleep and now there are no crashes.

(Note that there were no crashes when the RAID was unplugged and the computer went to sleep, even while other standard external drives were still plugged in)

Also, I cannot eject my RAID without a force ejection, but we'll deal with one issue at a time I guess.

I wish I could reproduce this.
Can you do the following:
Take a screen shot of your energy settings.
List all the applications you are running when it crashes.
attach them.
Download onyx. Use the maintenance tab and clear all the cache's. restart. Does it still crash?

I'm nervous about using Onyx, I don't know anything about it, could it damage my system or is there any other way to clear the caches on my Mac without it?

For the rest, screenshots attached.

1) Energy settings when computer crashes every time it goes to sleep
2) Energy settings when crashes seem to stop (for the most part)

At the end of the day I close all of my applications before leaving for the day. There are things running in the background, like Dropbox, Google Drive, and Backblaze, and Carbon Copy Cloner comes on every night at 8pm to do a backup of files from that day, but those are it that I'm aware of.

Thanks

Just FYI, I'm now past the return policy window for this enclosure, so if this can't be fixed, I'll have to take it up with OWC directly.

No problem, I will support you on this.

I just had a user with zero SoftRAID volumes report this. So we have additional ammunition to work with Apple on.

Onyx is a simple utility that has been around for years, it uses OS X "terminal" commands to perform its tasks. Its free, and solid as far as my experience with it goes. You could do all this yourself, of course, but its hard to determine what to use to flush each cache.

Okay I will download Onyx. I had used Cocktail before, but quit after I read it could cause more damage than good.

Meanwhile, a new observation. I had updated energy settings last night to let the computer go to sleep when not in use again, and sure enough, it crashed as expected. This morning it crashed again after going to sleep. I decided to test how long it takes once it goes to sleep to crash. So I put the computer to sleep manually, then I woke it up 30 seconds later and it was fine. I decided to give it more time and put it to sleep again and then waited about a minute and tried waking it up again and at first it was fine, but then I got the attached error. This was the exact same error that started my nightmare immediately after I upgraded to Catalina and resulted in OWC sending me a brand new enclosure and taking my other one back, moving all my data numerous times, etc. etc. so my heart sank. Then as I was trying to click on the "Click here for more information" link, the computer crashed and restarted. After it restarted, everything appeared to be fine, the volume wasn't locked, and SoftRaid showed no errors.

Here is the Apple report from this crash:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff7f92465238): "IOAHCIBlockStorageDriver::CommandTimeout! reallocated sectors = 0x0, pending sectors = 0x0, power on hours = 0x0, fBuiltIn = 0, LBA = 0x0, Block Count = 0x0, Tag = 0x9, Operation Type = 0x6 fis[0]=0xAAEF8027, fis[1]=0x0, fis[2]=0x0, fis[3]=0x0, fis[4]=0x0"@/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/IOAHCIBlockStorage/IOAHCIBlockStorage-316.40.3/IOAHCIBlockStorageDriver.cpp:6311
