Not Mounting After Converting to SoftRAID

Running iMac12,1, Intel Core i7, 2.8 GHz with Yosemite OS 10.10.5.

After erasing and re-creating an Apple RAID-0 on a WDC My Book Thunderbolt Duo 6TB external drive, I ran SoftRAID-Lite to convert it to SoftRAID. After it converted, the tile said it was unmounted. Tried mounting it with SR many times and it does nothing and stays unmounted. I know that SoftRAID-Lite doesn't have full tech support, but I created a Tech Support Report just in case this needs further attention.

I also have a 1st generation ThunderBay unit that was considering converting, but am waiting until I can rely on the WDC unit working properly before doing so.

Thanks.

Go ahead and send the support file to support@softraid.com and we can take a look.

A volume that is converted should mount.

This is a "new" RAID 0 volume you created, and it does not mount?

Yes, I totally erased this drive and re-striped it using Apple's disk utility and it mounted OK. Then had SoftRaid-Lite convert it to SoftRaid volume. When it wouldn't mount using SoftRaid, I tried to mount it using Apple's disk utility. The 'mount' choice was available, but it wouldn't mount there either. Then tried to Verify it with Apple's disk utility, and this is what I got...

Verifying partition map for “WDC WD30EZRX-00MMMB0 Media”
Checking prerequisites
Checking the partition list
Checking for an EFI system partition
Checking the EFI system partition’s size
Checking the EFI system partition’s file system
Checking the EFI system partition’s folder content
Checking all HFS data partition loader spaces
Checking booter partitions
Checking booter partition disk8s3
Checking Core Storage Physical Volume partitions
Problems were found with the partition map which might prevent bootingError:
Unrecognized file system.

That last line is interesting.

I'm reluctant to try this on my ThunderBay unit yet (which is another striped external drive) as you can imagine. I'll send the report. Thanks again.

We took a quick look at this, and it appears to involve a SoftRAID bug.

We will take a look at this and get a fix into the next version of SoftRAID and into a beta ASAP.

thanks!

I have an idea what is causing this and it should not affect many users.
