I have two ThunderBay 4, 16TB units. If I want to create a 1+0 where the four primary drives are in enclosure 1 and the secondaries in enclosure 2, How can I make are A=A, B=B etc?

It's easy to choose Slot A1, B1, C1, D1 as the primaries, but the secondaries get randomly assigned so the mirror pairs might come out like:

A1=C2
B1=B2
C1=A2
D1=A2

How can I get them all to match slot-to-slot?

As long as you know it does not technically matter, but here is a way you can do it.

restart your machine with no drives attached.
Give the disks "labels", Primary and Secondary, so it is easier to identify.

Slightly pull all the drives in enclosure 1 and
Insert A
Wait one minute and insert B
Wait one minute and insert C
Wait one minute and insert D

Repeat with enclosure 2.

Now you should have the configuration you want.

(a faster way to do the above is insert a disk, wait about 15 seconds and type diskutil list in terminal. When a new disk shows up in the list, then insert the next and repeat.)
