Just recently upgraded to 6.0.4 and now every time I launch SoftRAID I am prompted for admin permission as 6.0.4 wants to make changes. Following that, I get a message stating the driver was successfully installed. This happens every time I launch 6.0.4, even after a reboot.
In case it's relevant I had to manually remove the 6.0.3 folder from Applications to get 6.0.4 to launch from the status bar dropdown. That seems broken so I wonder if it's related. I can't remember ever having to do that with other apps after an upgrade.
This is all happening with SoftRAID XT on Big Sur 11.3.
Thanks!
Most likely this is a Big Sir extensions cache issue.
UNinstall SoftRAID from utilities menu. Then reinstall the driver. Make sure you go to System Preferences/Security to "Allow" OWC as an identified developer.
That should fix it. You will need to enter your license again.
Thanks. That did the trick.
Will this be necessary for all future upgrades?
Also - should it be necessary to manually remove the previous version from the Applications folder? Seems wrong...
No, you do not need to remove the apps from the applicaitons folder, they are inert unless launched.
Unfortunately that does not appear to be the case. After 6.0.4 installation and reboot, 6.0.3 was still the default. I had to manually launch 6.0.4 and remove 6.0.3.
Do you have a documented installation & upgrade procedure I could look at? What I’ve seen so far seems very messy so I can only assume I’ve done something wrong.
What happens is the driver is installed in /Library/Extensions. When you "Allow" OWC as an identified developer, then the extension (should be) is migrated to /Staged extensions. that is the version that loads at startup. Which is how you can have 6.0.4 driver installed, but 6.0.3 loading.
The application just checks the /Extensions file to see if it is current.
Gotcha. Thanks for the info. I'll refer back here if I encounter any similar issues moving forward.
Thanks again for the fast help!
