quote from the OWC knowledgebase https://software.owc.com/knowledge-base/does-softraid-support-raid-6/
RAID 6 is a widely requested feature, as it allows users to add larger capacity disk drives. We are working on the implementation of RAID 6 for a future SoftRAID release.
Is RAID 6 being worked on, especially with the larger thunderbays it would make sense to have RAID 6. Any thoughts?
RAID 6 is still on our development map, but still a distance away. Apple silicon caused a major delay. Its coming, but when is a question still.
Thanks for the update. Would pay for this feature update.
I got a mixed impression from the web site on whether or not RAID 6 was supported as the calculator includes it. I just ordered a Thunderblade x8 16TB and I would strongly prefer to use RAID 6. To prepare for potential future non-destructive reconfiguration would it make sense to leave a blade unused?
What calculator includes RAID 6?
I am hoping when we do get RAID 6 out, we will be able to convert RAID 5 to 6, if enough space on the volume is available to shrink it.'
We regularly run 7 day to 30 day intensive tests on RAID 5 and never saw an example of "bit rot", BTW.
What calculator includes RAID 6?
The "Measure Your RAID" button in the "Choose Your RAID" section on the main SoftRAID page goes to a calculator with 0, 1, 1+0, 4, 5, and 6.
