Hello everyone,
it's the third time i experience this error, the other two times i got away with deleting everything i had of the program in the mac and reinstalling softraid.
Now I just can't.
It's really frustrating, since I decided to buy this software raid with the OWC Express 4M2 I'm losing a lot of time behind the software.
The strange thing is that from one moment to the other the monitor icon disappears from the top bar and then you can't open it anymore and this error comes up.
Yesterday I did a complete cleanup of everything with clean my mac, maybe it's this? But it seems strange to me that the only software that gets sliced is him.
My os is the latest Monterey 12.2, hardware macbook pro 16 m1 max.
But a more stable version optimized for these macs can't be had? I would like to forget about having this software, that monitors my status and allows me to do raid and general control. I don't ask the moon...
You do not ask too much, the Monitor is generally extremely stable. Something in your system must be affecting it in some way. Attach a SoftRAID tech support file and I can look for anything suspicious.
The fact the Monitor is crashing (disappearing from menu) is a clue. Let me see if I can find anything.
I have nothing, I have uninstalled and tried to reinstall already several times with reset and cleaning of everything in the name softraid.
From the menus I have everything locked not being the app installed and started.
The strange thing is that it had stopped loading the monitor in the top bar, twice already. The same error when I reopened the application softraid 6.2, but I solved it by rebooting and reinstalling I seem to remember. Twice it stopped working on its own, the latter after a complete cleanup with the clean my mac application.
Maybe it deleted some registry key or something similar, but anyway it's strange because even without clean my mac it stopped working twice already. I have the raid mounted here, I'm working on it and it works fine...I just wish the application would work. By the way, in a month I will install 48tb in raid 5 on another owc...I need the software to work well.
Please tell me what data I can give you without having the app installed.
Clean my Mac can definitly be a problem, but I understand the point about it happening anyway.
Next time you see the Monitor missing, open the System Log and see if you see any system messages about the Monitor. Paste them here (not the whole log, they are nonsense, just some lines that mention SoftRAID) You can filter the log by entering SoftRAID in the upper left.
I have no idea if this one I'm attaching here can give you an idea of what he's going through, unfortunately I'm not a programmer.
In case it doesn't help if you can kindly tell me the exact process to do I would be grateful.
To make it easier on me:
Open the System.log with Console.app. See the Search bar? (upper right)
Enter SoftRAID.
If there are any SoftRAID lines, that is all that will display in the system log. It is possible there are none. There should not be that many entries, if any. I just need those and if perchance there are a lot, just the last few (non repeating) entries. That would be great
There is nothing on system log unfortunately.
Some entries with softraid I find under "analysis data":
com.apple.message.domain: com.apple.usage.app_activetime
com.apple.message.__source__: SPI
com.apple.message.signature: SoftRAID
com.apple.message.signature2: com.softraid.SoftRAID ||| 6.2 (6.2)
com.apple.message.value: 335
com.apple.message.value2: 94
com.apple.message.value3: 5
com.apple.message.value4: 0
com.apple.message.value5: 11
com.apple.message.value6: 1
com.apple.message.value7: 335
com.apple.message.result: YES
com.apple.message.summarize: YES
SenderMachUUID: 190EEFB8-48A4-3616-8F64-9A6A73042D11
I did not expect so. Monitor is crashing for a reason, however.
Did you ever "uninstall SoftRAID" all components?
I also can give you how to manally remove all driver components with terminal?
@softraid-support yes, but don't wokrk.
with terminal i follow another user thread that he had the same problem. But yes please let me know, i try last time.
ps: i hope you are working for a solid release fully compatible with monterey/m1 chip because that bugs they are not eligible for professional use.
Paste this into the terminal and make sure the driver is not quarantined. It should not be, this is just a test:
sudo xattr /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext
Did you go through these manual steps to remove all components?
Please let me know if this does or does not solve your issue. thanks
How to manually Remove/uninstall the SoftRAID driver and components:
Paste each command line below into the terminal application. You will need your normal admin password for some steps.
Delete the SoftRAID driver:
sudo rm -r /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext
sudo touch /Library/Extensions
sudo kextcache -fu /
Now, Restart your computer
Remove the daemon and SoftRAID Monitor:
sudo rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.softraid.softraidd.plist
sudo rm /Library/LaunchAgents/com.softraid.SoftRAIDMonitor.plist
Remove the SoftRAID application support directory:
sudo rm -r /Library/Application\ Support/SoftRAID
Remove all the SoftRAID preferences:
defaults delete com.softraid.SoftRAID
Remove preference files
sudo rm -r com.softraid.com
reset the extensions caches:
sudo kmutil clear-staging
sudo kextcache -i /
Restart the Mac. SoftRAID volumes will no longer mount on the desktop, but that is temporary, until you reinstall the driver.
When you run SoftRAID to install the driver, do not immediately restart. wait until the dialog box pops up to go to System Preferences/Security. "Allow" OWC as an Identified developer, now restart later when you quit System Preference, go to SoftRAID and restart.
Yes finally i could reinstall everything, thank you very much.
Now to maintain it what should I or should I not do?
One last thing, monterey pauses the external disks and I'm using an application called "AMPHETAMINE" that keeps the disks active. Can this application bother me? You can see the icon next to the softraid monitor.

I have never heard of Amphetamine hurting anything, so keep using it. let me know if your issues are resolved.
