Is there any way to start the validation process from where it left off previously?
I am trying to validate 2 new 12TB hard drives for use in raid. I started the validation process yesterday morning and after about 10 hours, it was still giving me another 4 hours to finish.
Since I couldn't leave the Mac on during the night I stopped the validation process to continue it this morning, but I see that it has started all over again....

Is there a way for SoftRaid to resume the previous work or do you always have to start over with validation? I have two other 12TB hard drives and two 16TB hard drives...

A validate is a read of a volume to update parity, it is not a rigorous test. It does not destroy data. So there is no need to have a "resume" on a validate.

Certify does have a resume, as it is a rigorous test of the disk.

If you have new disks, what you want to do is 'certify" them. that will take 6 days, however, so best to do all at once.

Thank you for the quick reply.
I have never certified a hard disk, but from now on I will. At this point can I avoid "validating" hard disks if there is no point? I thought "validate" was as important as "certify".
If certifying is more important than validating, then I will always do the former.
You write about destroying the data, does that mean that certification removes everything on it?
Thanks

But does the Lite version have the possibility of certifying a disc? Because I see that from the menu this item is disabled...

Yes. You need to select the disk you are going to certify first.

@spyro70

You selected a volume, not the disk. Certify is a disk function, not a volume function. It zeros all data on the disk. A validate is good on a RAID volume that has had crashes, or other problems, SoftRAID reads all data and updates any parity blocks. It does not affect data.

Certify writes random data to the disk, reads it back, 3 times. It completely wipes all data on the device, so even the FBI could not recover anything. (that is not its purpose, just saying it does delete data in the process) A certify is a rigorous test to see if a disk is reliable.

Thank you very much and sorry for my ignorance, but I have no knowledge of the topic and thought it applied to volume.
Can I choose the option "2 times" instead of "3 times"?
That way it should finish faster?

We recommend 3 passes, but yes you can do two passes. It will write a pattern read it, then write zero's, and read it back.
