Hello,
I am getting this error message "The disk initialize command for disk disk4, SN: 135900000A28, USB3 bus 0, id 6 failed because this disk is being used by another application (error number = 106)."
My system is a Mac Studio Ultra running Ventura 13.4. My SoftRAID is v7.5 with driver 7.5. I have checked SoftRAID for updates and it says it's all up to date.
I have tried to initialize 2 different types of drives (Seagate Ironwolf 8TB NAS and Seagate 3 TB Barracuda) in two different enclosures (OWC Dual Dock USB-C and Oyen Fortis 5C) and I keep getting the same error message when trying to initialize or Zero any of the disks.
I have triple checked that all possible applications are closed by double checking my activity monitor - only SoftRAID is open when I try to initialize.
I have tried unmounting and still get the error. I have tried formatting the disks in various formats using disk utility, then quitting disk utility to initialize in SoftRAID and still the error persists.
Here is a copy of the log. Thanks for your help.
May 20 12:40:43 - SoftRAID Application: The disk initialize command for disk disk4, SN: 135900000A28, USB3 bus 0, id 6 failed because this disk is being used by another application (error number = 106).
Note: We never want the SoftRAID Log posted, instead you would post the SoftRAID tech support file. It also leaves the forum readable for others.
This error means SoftRAID app cannot unmount the volumes. Either the driver is not loading (Not an issue with 13.3 or later), or your volume is not unmountable by the app. Manually unmount the volume first, then you can initialize. Now, when you create a volume, if that fails, your SoftRAID driver is not loaded.
Sorry - didn't realize they were different things.
I tried unmounting the drives in disk utility, then I quit disk utility. I am still getting the same error message. Does that mean the driver is not loaded? If so how can I load it? The bottom right corner of my SoftRAID says Driver v 7.5...
Thank you!
I do not see why. If you erase one with Disk Utility as HFS, then go to SoftRAID, can you initialize it now?
No luck - can I email you a screen recording (63 MB) so you can see if I'm making an error I'm not realizing?
I saw the the event in the support file.
They do erase in disk utility?
Lets try in terminal:
unmount the volume, then run this command. Make sure disk4 is still one of the disks.
sudo softraidtool disk disk4 initialize
If it fails, paste the response in your reply.
Hi @softraid-support - I'm getting very similar errors and cannot initialize the disk.
Here is the tech file.
Thanks
Can you check in System Settings, Privacy, if the SoftRAID Application is listed in "full disk access"?
@softraid-support Should Softraid be granted full disk access ? I just checked on my system and it isn't, although everything seems to run fine.
Yes, the application needs it to do things like unmount volumes, etc. Some application tasks could fail if the application does not have full disk access.
