Hi, just following up this discussion from the thread below from Dec 2023 and wondering if there has been any progress on this?

TTP essentially runs command line (diskutil first aid) tools on APFS volumes. Disk Warrior was unique, in that it literally built a new directory.

There is no equivalent for APFS, which apparently is still not fully documented.

So are you saying that TTP is NOT a true directory rebuilding tool like they claim? If not, that is a very real shame....but then, is it false advertising?

And how have you confirmed this? By speaking with Micromat, or via testing, or otherwise?

@smayer97

Rebuilding an APFS volume from scratch would be extremely difficult, APFS is not even fully documented yet. Only Alsoft was able to do directory rebuilding with HFS. And that is in 30 years of various developers trying, they all gave up.

Its a massive effort. Using MacOS to try to repair an APFS volume, yes. Tinkering with the parameters to do better than the "first Aid" function? plausible. Doing a reverse engineering of APFS? I don't see it.

Am I correct in understanding your reply to mean that you do not have any confirmation of what TTP does, nor how it claims to be able to rebuild a volume directory?

@smayer97

I wish you would ask Micromat, I don't want to speak on their behalf.

I just thought that based on your comment in the other thread, "...I have a good contact,..." it meant someone at Micromat, so I was hoping for some inside or direct info.

@smayer97

I understand. You can see how it may be awkward for me to answer directly, either way? I am not Micromat.

Did not mean to put you on the spot. Just thought you had an inside track.
