We just had a user say no, putting a standard system to sleep with either Apple RAID drives or SoftRAID, the drives still wake up on a cycle.
@softraid-support I think maybe my question was misunderstood. My system (Mac mini) is ON 24/7. It never sleeps. Do drives remain asleep or do they wake up multiple times an hour like mine are currently doing, when the system is left powered on, never sleeping?
What I have seen is constant waking, about every 45 minutes. I have seen other similar complaints.
@softraid-support It's so bad! And it's outrageous that these drives are getting so many cycles for no reason! Is there anything we can do to get Apple to fix this?
Can users please test sleep in the Ventura beta? I need some feedback. thanks!

Going back a moment, can I just confirm you mean that with MacOS Ventura, with the system set to NEVER SLEEP, the drives are still sleeping and waking about every 45 minutes when they're not being accessed? i.e. There's nothing to look forward to in Ventura?
Yes.
I had this report from a user:
"I set up a system with 4 Apple formatted Thunderbay drives. It did not always replicate, but sure enough, even with Apple Drives it is doing it.
My test was simple:
4 Apple formatted APFS volumes, over Thunderbolt.
Disable as many sleep related features as I could find.
Use sleep from the Apple menu
wait."
@softraid-support I think we're asking/answering two different questions. This user disabled sleep-related features. I want them on. My Mac never sleeps, as I need it to be on 24/7. I just want the drives to remain asleep when they're not in use.
That is what they meant. All sleep functions they could find were set to not sleep. There is no longer a single place to say do not put to sleep.
@softraid-support I still think we're not saying the same thing. Downloading Ventura now to test for myself, - at least then be able to hopefully provide some data for you. Otherwise I'm going back to Big Sur. I'm so tired of this Apple nonsense.
@softraid-support Since my editing time passed, - I tried to install Ventura on an external SSD and it won't let me. So... I guess that option is out.
Here is how to do it:
run Disk Utility
select your startup disk
click + volume
Create a new volume. This is APFS, so it shares the space of your other volume.
Now, install Ventura.
Point the installer to the NEW volume.
Then you have ventura installed and also your Monterey. Migrate data later.
Note: this is messy, but to enable SoftRAID to load, do these steps:
Set Startup to Monterey
restart
Set Startup to Ventura
restart
Shutdown
Hold Power key to get to recovery mode
Go through the steps to set System Startup Security again, to "enable third party developers".
Now restart and install SoftRAID driver, "Allow" OWC in System Settings (there should be a link to take you there from MacOS, you may need to scroll down when you get there)
Now you can test.
MacOS does not allow third party drivers to load starting from externals. external startup disks are going away as a feature.
@softraid-support Thanks for that, but I don't really have enough room on the primary disk, sadly.
