Hey, just upgraded to Big Sur, and I have two OWC hard drives not showing up (the words are, but not hard drive, not even an exclamation). I have tried to install Softraid 6 twice and it gives me a message as below....
What do I do? not working.
Were you running a beta version? If so, what was the last version you had running?
try this:
go to /Library/Extensions and /Library/StagedExtensions
Delete the SoftRAID.kext drivers in each.
restart
In terminal, run these two commands:
sudo kmutil clear-staging
sudo kextcache -i /
Restart
Can you run SoftRAID now?
Softraid 6.0.1 is the one it installed in my library. Softraid XT 5.8.4 is the last version I had on this computer just before upgrading to Big Sur. I can try the methods you mentioned above. Thank you.
I cannot delete the 2nd file SoftRAID.kext in the /library/stagedextensions/library/extensions
(there was not softraid.kext in - /libary/stagedextensions (had to go to library again and extensions).
The Terminal commands worked. It restarted successfully, but then gave the same initial error as the first time.
Am I doing something wrong?
Well I restarted my computer and my Thunderbay Drives are at least showing up; However, my SoftRaid software is still not working with the same message:
"An internal part of the Softraid Monitor has stopped functioning properly. Please quit softraid and relaunch it."
I did, but i'm sure you all have it figured out over there hopefully.
Thanks again for your time.
I saw this bug once on my M1, when upgrading from one of our internal beta versions, but could not reproduce it. I was hoping it was because of a change in that beta. Guess not!
You are working, so that takes the emergency out of this, at least. Run this command in terminal:
sudo kextstat -b com.softraid.driver.SoftRAID
It will tell you what driver version is running, I wager it is 6.0. 6.0 is what is bundled with Big Sur.
When you launch SoftRAID, and you get the crash notice, then open the console.app, and browse through the diagnostic, spin reports and crash log folders, do you see any SoftRAID Monitor crash logs? The crash log will be time stamped. Can you attach the text? that may help explain what is happening.
I reported this in a separate thread (pending) https://srforums.wpengine.com/functionality-issues/softraid-monitor-install-problem/#post-8535
I had never installed a beta and it was a fresh install of 6.0.1 on an Intel MacBook Pro.
Good point. That was I believe a different bug (same symptom), a transient one, which went away.
I think this may be a separate (more permanent) bug, but: charlesman, if you restart and run SoftRAID again (try a couple times) does the problem stay or go away?
yes, thanks, it said it installed 6.0.1 on the machine.
I'll attach the log of Terminal & System log.
And I've tried restarting a few times, it presents the same message crash.
If you open the console.app and look for diagnostic reports, crash logs, etc. do you see any SoftRAID or SoftRAID Monitor crashes you can forward?
Okay, I'm back here. Just tried to open again. No Crash reports on SoftRaid, but I did get the message below and the error log.
I just solved a case of this by going back to b53. Uninstall SoftRAID, then running 6.0.1 again.
Please try this.
what is going back to b53? I did remove the Softraid 6.0.1 and put in trash, deleted, then returned to the Softraid website to download and install. It came up with the same error.
I removed Softraid 5.8.4 also and deleted all. Reinstalled 6.0.1 and it still didn't work.
I guess you never ran 6.0 beta.
Download it here:
http://www.softraid.com/sr_beta
Install the driver. You may need to select the volume icon and "reinstall SoftRAID driver.
(Allow OWC when prompted)
Then "Uninstall" SoftRAID
Then restart and run 6.0.1
That link worked, thank you. I installed the 6.0 beta /sr_beta. However, it wants me to upgrade to 6.0.1., but I'm afraid of it not working again, is it going to work now?
You're saying to uninstall the beta and the reinstall 6.0.1?
