To keep this short: made the leap from MBP Intel to a Mac Studio M2. Took a month between arrival and leaving for the holidays to get the new computer setup. It shipped with Sequoia.
I own a Pro license for SoftRaid 7 but was always of the impression that it would no longer be supported on newer operating systems. Is that impression correct? When I go to the purchase/download page, it only shows compatibility up to macOS 13 (Ventura), but as I began to dig through the forums I found support mentioning that 7.6 would load on Sonoma. Because that appeared to be an official SoftRaid reply to someone on the forum, it made me wonder if I was mistaken. Will SoftRaid 7 still work on newer macOS or not? Not sure what the status is with Sequoia. Seriously considered a clean install downgrade to Sonoma with the new Mac Studio but finally decided to leave the machine "as is" and update anything/everything that needs to be in order to work smoothly.
I understand developers need to renumeration and don't have any major problems updating to SoftRaid 8, but before I spend the money (given the massive hole in my bank account following the Studio purchase), I wanted to confirm that it's really necessary to do so with the new hardware.
Also, is it still necessary to disable Secure Boot to load the drivers with SoftRaid 8? (just so I know what I'm getting into when I make the switch).
Thanks as always.
First, yes your volume will instantly mount.
Second, SoftRAID 8.3 is required for Sequoia. 7.x will not launch.
Third, no, security no longer needs disabling for SoftRAID! the driver will auto load. MacOS itself will determine what SoftRAID driver loads, not the application. this makes it so easy to use SoftRAID now, but took incredible work with Apple to accomplish this.
Your enclosure also has three years warranty/and SoftRAID Premium. Log into your account to see your status. Then we put you on an annual subscription, but keep in mind if you get a new enclosure, with SoftRAID, that gives you three years of Premium.
We are still working on the methods to auto-add this to an existing license, currently it is manual.
Hope this helps
@softraid-support Thanks for this - very helpful! I'm well past the 3-year period, as my ThunderBay is from 2021. I'll go ahead and upgrade to SoftRaid 8. Glad to hear security no longer needs disbanding!
