Hi, I am thinking of adding two USB external drives to my iMac, WD easystore 10tb USB 3 drives, and using softraid to mirror them.
Just wondering if using RAID over USB is ok, or is it prone to more errors or riskier?
Thanks
USB is not as reliable, but for Mirrors, it is fine. About the worst that happens with a mirror volume, is a disk may not show up about 3% of the time, where if you restart, it will show up and rebuild.
Thanks so much for the information. I currently have softraid XT because I am using a OWC Thunderbay enclosures. In order to set up the external USB hard drive’s, I’ll need to purchase SoftRAID or SoftRAID Lite . I was wondering if you knew if version 6 would be coming out sometime soon? If it won’t be out this month then I’ll go ahead and purchase 5.7
Thanks so much for the great support, as always.
While we can not pre-announce a release date, I can confirm that SoftRAID 6 will not be released in January 2019.
Wouldn't be a good idea to offer SoftRAID 6 for free for people who will buy the full version of SoftRAID 5.7 a few months before the release of the new version?
Also, do you plan to offer RAID-6?
There will be a "free upgrade" period, yes.
However, any time frame can only be set once there is a fairly solid release date.
What that period is has not been decided.
Yes, SoftRAID 6 will add support for RAID 6 (and we are working on an enhancement to RAID 6 in addition), among other features.
Well, encryption, APFS, RAID-6 – I will be first to buy!
Thanks.
We are working hard to make SoftRAID 6 a high value upgrade.
