I have a number of OWC thunderbay 4s with TB2 connection. First to my MBP2015 and now to a MP2013. I'm guessing that sooner or later I'll need to switch to a new computer, which won't have TB2 and only has TB3. What to do then?
I hear that the Apple TB2-TB3 connectors are suspect. What's the best way to move on please?
The Apple brand adapters work fine. Its non Apple that are a problem they work for monitors only.
So you may need one or two of them.
I have not experience any issues with Apple's TB2 to TB3 adapter which is connected to a Mac mini USB-C. It's a reliable but also expensive adapter. I was concerned about decreasing speed, but it turnout as fast as before. Another big plus is there is no need to replace all TB2 devices for now.
Cheers, that's good to know.
I use a few of the tb2 to tb3 adapters for my thunder bays and 4m2’s and they work fine. But as was pointed out before, you’re best bet is to pay the extra price and buy genuine Apple adapters.
Correct.
In fact, most non Apple adapters will have problems if you try to get high throughput through them (like RAID)
Great. Particularly as I just picked up a NOS Thunderbay off the 'Bay.
