I have a RAID 5 like this:

Bay 1: 3TB - i/o errors - Data and parity disk - predicted failure
Bay 2: 3TB - no errors - Data and parity disk
Bay 3: 3TB - no errors - Data and parity disk
Bay 4: 3TB - no errors - Data and parity disk - out of sync

Rebuilding has failed. I want to replace Bay 1. Can I do that without data loss?

Thanks!

No you cannot replace disk 4, if the rebuild has failed.I am guessing that either bay 1 is failing to read, so cannot help rebuild bay 4, or bay 4 also has a problem and is not rebuilding.

Either way, you need to back up, then replace the disk, create a new RAID 5 volume and restore.

One idea is to "validate" the volume and see if it can validate. But in any case, start backing up now.
