Not sure if this is related to recent Big Sur 11.1 update, but it did happen on Softraid 6 beta 47. When trying to mount a drive, (Thunderbay 6) it begins to mount with a progress bar but never mounts. The status remains unmounted.

I've attached the report for tech support below.

After going through one of the threads, I was able to find the solutions. Uninstall beta 47, and downgrade Softraid back to 43. I can't speak for the true cause of the issue, but I can mount the drives again. Hopefully the report I generated can be used to narrow it down in the future update.

One quick suggestion though, I believe it would help if these known issues/solutions were separated out so that it would be more accessible. I was quite surprised to find a solution to the problem in somewhat unrelated and rather long thread.

That was the solution. I would have posted it.

We are trying to get a beta 48 out to address this. The cause is still unknown and does not affect all intel based machines.

thanks for the feedback!

I am experiencing this same issue, Mac mini (2018), macOS Big Sur 11.1, SoftRaid 6.0.1 Beta 47 -- ThunderBay 4 won't successfully mount. I'm not sure how to perform a downgrade of SoftRaid, so details on how to do that would be helpful. (When I launch b46, which is the oldest version I have, I only get a warning that the installed driver is newer than the SoftRaid version, and it doesn't successfully mount there either. I don't know if there's an option to forcibly downgrade the driver)

Addendum to my previous post: I discovered the `Uninstall SoftRaid` option under `Utilities` in the menu bar, however after uninstalling b47 and reinstalling b46, the problem persists, presenting exactly as described in the original post of this thread. Right now my $800 box might as well just be a noisy fan and a green LED for all the good it does me. Is there an ETA on b48 (or a link to download b43, which apparently does not present this issue)?

EDIT: Apologies, I was tired after a day of work and upgraded SoftRaid beta to find it not working, I missed the stickied thread with the b43 download link 😅🙏

No problem. Its frustrating to not have access to your data.

Β

Go back to B43 until we get b48 out. Running the older 6.0 beta 43 version will fix this. Let me know if not.

Steps: Run SoftRAID 6.0 B47.
Uninstall SoftRAID (utilities menu)
Restart
Run B43 and install the driver.

Β

Let me know. Make sure you allow OWC as a identified developer if prompted.

No Joy. Still shows volumes, but clicking on "Mount" does nothing. MacOS 11.1 would send screen shot, but you don't allow that type of file.

Β

Moving a disk to another Mac running 11.1 does mount the drive, but with no icon on the desktop.Β

Third re-boot did it. But multiple errors and warnings were given by the software during start-up. Examining the "problem" disks with SoftRAID after system is running shows NO errors.

@david_preston

Make sure you enabled "Full Disk Access" for the SoftRAID app in system preferences/security/privacy.

Β

The missing icon seems to be a Big Sur bug, that most users are reported fixes itself eventually. But you need Full Disk Access enabled.

If you attach a SoftRAID tech Support file, I can take a look.

Hope it helps. I have been a licensed SoftRIAD user since 2019. Really great product with matching support service. Thanks 😀Β

With that many disks connected, I am surprised you are not getting frequent disk ejects over Thunderbolt.

Its possible this is a shutdown issue. When you shut down, do you see a disk light on, one at a time, until it is all completed?

Β

If you unmount all your volumes before shutdown, do you get any errors?

Β

You do not get a crash on shutdown, correct?

I had same issue. My Softraid volumes will not mount when using SoftRaid 6.0.1 b47 . I enabled full disk access mode which was a suggestion by soft raid support that I saw in another thread and that did not help. I have an Intel based Mac, iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)Β running Big Sur 11.1 . I switched to 6.0.1 b43 and my volumes mounted again. No issues despite the 6.0.1 b43 app not currently having Full Disk Access privileges.Β
