Hi,

I wanted to ask if I can certify the disks in three non-consecutive passes.

I am planning to do the three recommended passes, but simply not during weekdays for the new hard drives as I need all the Thunderbolt ports on my computer to connect monitors and other accessories.

However, I am able to leave the Thunderbay with the new uncertified hard drives on to do the passes from Friday - Monday. That would mean that every week I would do one certification pass at the time.

Would that be the same as certifying them with 3 passes all at the same time ?

Furthermore, would I have to uncheck the 15 minute random test for passes 2 and 3?

Thanks in advance!

No it is not the same, but what you should be able to do is this:
3 pass certify.
At the end of the weekend, "Cancel" certify.
remove the disks.
Next weekend insert the disks and, "certify", leaving the settings the same.
Hopefully, you will get the offer to "resume".

If not, repeat step 1, then the third time, do a one pass certify.

The reason is that the last pass of a certify is just a zero disk. That makes the drives zero's out at the end of the process like a new drive.
The other passes are random IO, so you are getting the job done. Even if resume does not work, if it goes further than pass 1, you are OK.

(I am pushing engineering for a better way to remember when a certify resumes.)
