I have four 4TB Toshiba N300 NAS drives that are going in a Mediasonic Probox.
One was DOA so it's being replaced. i figured i'd go ahead and start the certify process on the other 3 drives. well it was as i had expected at ~48 hours and eventually got down to 42 hours remaining. I let it run overnight and when i checked it this morning it was at 86 hours on each of the drives.
is this normal?
also, i'm running this certify process on my main editing machine. so i went to cancel (pause) to work on a project and when i came back to resume the certify process, it didn't give me the option to "resume" and it started over at 48 hours. does the cancel/resume feature work if you turn the box off &/or unplug the usb from the computer?
thank you.
Yes it can be normal for these times to change a lot. The estimate is based on the current read/write speed of the disk, which varies as it progresses.
We cannot always maintain the state of a disk certify, as the disk has no data on it. So if you remove the disk and it is given a different BSD number on re-insertion, then the certify may not restart where it left off.
This is an area we would like to eventually improve.
