Strange: I've mounted an HGST 4Tb for NAS, new but purchased 2 years ago, and certified it with SoftRaid on a USB dock attached to my Mac. The certification process terminated ok. I then ejected the disk and leave it on my desk. This one week ago.
Yesterday I mounted it again but SoftRaid display an "disk failure predicted" on this disk, based on SMART.
I'm a bit puzzled by what is happening, and ask for advice to someone more experienced than me, whether or not to use this disk.

There is a reason SoftRAID is predicting failure. Look at the disk tile. SoftRAID will display the number of reallocated sectors and the number of "unreliable" sectors.
We have discovered and many industry experts have discovered, that a disk with important data should not have any reallocated sectors. Once a disk starts to reallocate sectors, even a single one, it then becomes much more likely to fail than another disk without reallocated sectors. So it is best to replace such disks, or use them for non important data until they fail.
Google did a study of 100,000 disks, which proved this idea. another company BackBlaze, who offers online cloud backup, also have statistics which show that disks which reallocate sectors are usually beginning to fail.

Thanks for your reply! Understood! I was just a little puzzled by the fact that the disc has never been used, and seven days ago, as well as having passed the certification, he had no SMART problems...
