Question about verifying.

A verify reads the data on a disk. Perform this task if you suspect a disk may be displaying symptoms, or perhaps had a disk error you are not certain if it was caused by a displaced cable, power fluctuation (All disks should be on UPS's!), etc and want to get additional input. Verify disk does not affect data in any way.

There is also a validate volume, which reads all data on the volume, ensures it is readable, and also updates any parity information that is not correct. Many users perform a validate on a weekly or monthly basis as a precautionary task.
