I am trying to build a 4x HDD Raid 5.
Using 4x 8TB HGST 7280 HDD, and an Akitio Thunder3 Quad X, (Thunderbolt 3 4 bay enclosure)
32TB of HDD to create 24TB of Raid 5.
I have left the initialization process continue for over 10hours, and there is no progress indication. I am unable to quit SoftRaid.
What the heck?!
Most Raid 5 initializations you can start using the Volume right away, maybe with some performance loss, but at least you can see progress or use the volume.
Activity Monitor shows 300MB/sec of Read, and almost zero Write
So far not impressed with SoftRaid.
Anybody have any idea how long this should take?
Sep 23 00:08:45 - SoftRAID Application: Creating the RAID 5 volume named "24TB_Raid5" of size 21.8 TB with the following disks: disk4, SoftRAID ID: 07C347680917CC80, SATA bus 0, id 1 (Thunderbolt), disk3, SoftRAID ID: 07C347680A7AB040, SATA bus 0, id 2 (Thunderbolt), disk5, SoftRAID ID: 07C34768182A4E00, SATA bus 0, id 3 (Thunderbolt), disk2, SoftRAID ID: 07C347680A12AF40, SATA bus 0, id 4 (Thunderbolt).
Generally, no more than 30 seconds, 2 minutes (per disk) on some SSD's when TRIM is enabled.
OS X is what creates the file system. Some component in OS X must have failed or not returned.
Delete the volume, restart, and try again.
