With macOS 10.15 Catalina due to be released soon, I would appreciate any information you have about compatibility with SoftRAID. It will help me prepare for the installation.

Thank you.

The latest Catalina beta's no longer work with 5.7.5.
So we are going to have a SoftRAID 6 beta publically available. We will release 6.0 when we feel it is ready.

Note to self, don't upgrade to Catalina on release.

I think this is one that should be delayed until .1 or .2. Apple is still making significant changes to the beta. There were still bugs in the last version that I consider significant in obvious places.

Your observations echo what I have read elsewhere. I play to not upgrade right away. I appreciate your comments.

I've read that GM build of Catalina is now available, with the 10/5 release date. I'm wondering whether current version of Softraid is compatible with the macOS, or I should install the beta version of Softraid 6.

Catalina may be released soon. Once the GM candiate is available to developers, it is generally a week or so before release.

This latest beta does not allow the SoftRAID driver to be installed. (the version licensed to Apple for compatibility purposes always loads)

We will work on a solution to this.

I recommend users wait until 10.15.1, and also a release of SoftRAID for Catalina. Doubly so, as you will not be able to rebuild volumes, there will not be error notifications and RAID 5 performance will be slower as a result.

Catalina has made very significant changes deep in the kernel. It seems likely that kernel level bugs remain that were not addressed in the GM, so this release is probably one of those releases that it's wise to be patient and let others discover the problems.

As the beta becomes available, what's the best way to get notified?

As one of those 'others' who has been happily running Catalina betas on a spare machine, and upgraded the machine with the Thunderbay already...

Any ETA on a compatible Beta? 5.7.5 seems to work OK, beyond the ugly red '!' on the icon.

Thanks,

SoftRAID 5.8 will be released in the next day or so.

You can "check for updates" manually, but SoftRAID will prompt you for an upgrade, but that is a weekly check, so you can get it sooner if you check yourself.

I installed Catalina and now SoftRAID 5.7.5 doesn't allow me to check for updates - the feature is grayed out in the menu. Launching SoftRAID also causes the system to reinstall the driver every time. What is the best way to download 5.8 in this case?

Manually download it when it is released. Should be soon.

SoftRAID 5.8 released a few days ago. I spent the weekend upgrading to Catalina on an unsupported 2010 Mac Pro. Even with the patcher, there was a lot of manual configuration to figure out why it wouldn't take. Lots of booting into verbose mode and going through logs. Finally got it loaded, and aside from Catalina moving a lot of my root folders (where all my VM's lived), it's behaving well so far. Don't forget to redo your Time Machine folder locations, if they were moved due to the read-only APFS protected system container. SoftRAID 5.8 is working well - only a few things that don't work like HELP > About, System and System Data APFS containers don't show up (only my HDD RAID), etc. - but I'm sure the SoftRAID team are well aware and working hard on v6.0 :)
