Three items:

If I remove the 2 disks making up a raid from their thunderbay 4 box, then use the box for a different set of 4 disks (also to become a raid), will the original 2 disk raid still retain it's "raidness" when re-installed in the box?

Secondly, I note that you say certifying several drives doesn't add much time to the certify process, ie, won't be that much long than doing just one drive. I've already started certifying a set of 4 drives in a thunderbay 4 box. If I connect a second thunderbay box, also containing 4 drives, via a 2nd, separate USB-C cable (two ports in a mac mini 2018), will it still be true that the elapsed time for all 8 will not increase too much ??

Thirdly, I note that after more than 6 hours, the time estimate has not declined much at all. The estimates for the 4 drives ranged, originally, from 41 to 47 hours and now are all at 56 or 57 hours. What sort of total time should I expect, if I leave the certify process as it is (ie, if I don't add the second set of 4 drives as noted above)?

Thanks,
Tom

As long as you do not disturb the disks, they will be fine whereever they are connected. The volume on them will be fine. SoftRAID does not care where or how disks are connected, a long as they are reliable.

If you connect to a different bus, there is no impact. 8 drives should also take the same time, but there will be some additional overhead.

The time estimate is not accurate, it is a rough estimate. It will go up and down depending on where on the disk it is, as the beginning of disks are much faster than the inner tracks.

So roughly 50 or so hours is probably where it will end up, hard to say.

Thanks, Tom

Just a point of info, not a request for a reply, all disks now have a "time remaining" 64 hours or more. All 4 are new, 6 TB, 2 are WD, 2 are HP.
