After stumbling into SoftRAID after troubleshooting an OWC duo external drive from several years ago that stopped mounting I'm getting a prompt that's telling me that my disks in the OWC are using an older format of the "SoftRAID volume data structures". It wants me to update the disks in order to use all the new features in 5.5
This disk has data on it that I do not want to lose. Should I perform the update or skip it? The prompt is unclear on what will happen, if anything, to the data already stored on the volume. What would I gain by updating?
Thanks
DH
This will not affect the data on the volume, no. It simply updates some data outside the volume, so it is compatible with newer versions of SoftRAID.
If it succeeds, then you won't get this message again. If it cannot update the partition maps, then SoftRAID will alert you. in which case, make sure all volumes on that disk are unmounted and run SoftRAID again.
