Managing Disks - Certify, Verify, Initialize

I have a single disk external drive in a non-OWC enclosure. I certified it and initialized it and created a single max-size volume on it all via SoftRAID. I just copied several terabytes of data onto the drive and now I want to check on the health of the drive before I put the disk in storage for a few weeks.
Is it better to verify or validate or both?
Is there even a difference between verify and validate when you have a single max size volume on a single disk?

With a single disk, a validate and verify are the same, a read across the entire disk or volume.
