Hi- help please!
I had a 3 disk raid operating fine since setup- I would disconnect one drive and store offsite, rebuilding it periodically.
Then one day it showed up as another raid, same name and data as the other 2 drive raid.
Both raids show missing disks-3 on one, and 4 on the other!

I've read some previous posts- looks like may it have been caused by updating drivers, but before I just delete the second raid and add it back to the first, thought I'd check in.

What caused this?

Remedy?

And what about the missing disks?

Thanks!

We would like to see a SoftRAID tech support file from you. Send to support at SoftRAID.

Back up in the meantime.

This configuration was a 4 disk mirror volume, with one disk being off site, then connected to the array on occasion. Good strategy!

What happened most likely was a fail-over event, where the original volume rebuilt automatically. However, the off site mirror disk was not connected, so it was split from the mirror.

What you have to do is add it back and let it do a full rebuild. Since it lost touch with the original volume, it cannot do a fast rebuild.

So here are your steps:
First confirm manually that the main volume (with 3 disks) has all your data, that the external only has "backup" or archived files. this is for safety.
Delete the external USB disk volume.
"remove missing secondary disks" on the Thunderbay volume.
"Add Secondary disk" to the Thunderbay volume, and select the USB disk.
Let it rebuild.

Should only take a few minutes to get going again.

Note: I saw in your SoftRAID log that multiple times your volume stopped rebuilding. I think there may be a problem with the volume directory. Two simple ways to fix this:
Backup/restore
Disk Warrior.
(If you choose a backup restore, here is a way to do it without requiring an additional backup)
Validate your volume. (not required, but "Best practice")
Split mirror, and select Read only Secondary disk.
Erase the original mirror, using SoftRAID
Copy the data back, from your Read Only volume.
Delete the Read Only secondary volume.
Add secondary disk, select the now empty disk, and let it rebuild. You can use the volume while it is rebuilding.)
