A disk stopped responding...

Overnight, and then again today at lunch, while my 2014 MBP was sleeping, a disk "fell off the bus" (same physical disk in both cases, slot B) :

Jan 3 12:42:27 - SoftRAID Driver: A disk (disk0, SoftRAID ID: 07E1305686962E40) for the SoftRAID volume "MyMedia" (disk9) was removed or stopped responding while the volume was mounted and in use.

Jan 2 22:10:08 - SoftRAID Driver: A disk (, SoftRAID ID: 0000000000000000) for the SoftRAID volume "MyMedia" (disk4) was removed or stopped responding while the volume was mounted and in use.

I'm ignoring the fact that the earlier console log didn't know what disk it was, but perhaps that's a clue.

This is in a new OWC Thunderbay 6, connected to the MBP via the Apple T2T3 adaptor (no other hub etc). I'm on macOS Sierra 10.12.6, and could maybe be convinced to upgrade if you think there are reasons the upgrade would affect this condition.

After reboot the drive appears normally. All drives were certified before use. This drive has ~150 hrs of use.

Qs:

* Is there any way to deal with this other than a reboot? Terminal commands are fine.

* Should I be concerned about the enclosure? Additional info: This enclosure did not see a 500GB M.2 NVMe M.2 SSD drive that I purchased with it. Since I didn't have a way to test the drive, we started with an RMA for that, knowing that the enclosure is also possibly at fault.

I will shortly leave the office for a while, so we'll see if it's happening during every sleep or just some sleeps...

Thank you.

Disable "Put drives to sleep" in Energy Settings, in System Preferences. That should prevent this. there is a weird interaction with this setting and most Thunderbolt enclosures. We are working on a solution to this for Thunderbay's.

Let us know if with this setting you get any additional incidences of a single disk ejecting.

It turns out that was already disabled. (I think I had read it in the setup guide.)

Let me know if I can do anything to help debug it.

My experience is that disabling "put drives to sleep" fixes most of these incidences.

Let us know if it happens again, especially coming out of sleep.

It happened to two volumes on the lunch sleep, and two volumes on another sleep this afternoon.
